Matte lipsticks are my all-time favourite lipstick formula. I really like the fact that they last long and still look good after a day filled with plenty of talking, keeping hydrated and eating (all fixed staples of my day), reducing the need for frequent touch-ups which is not practical on busy days.
The MUA brand is a Superdrug brand. I was sent the Luxe Velvet Matte Lipstick in Shade #5, a plummy brown colour to test and review. The product is described as “full pigment, velvet matte lip-shade. With its unique and luxurious design this lipstick applies smoothly for a full coverage, gorgeously matte finish”.
I tested this over a one week period. It applied well and the 3D geometric design was very innovative, making application in the inner corners of my lips easy and accurate. Colour pay-off was very good and the formula was smooth and creamy, not drying.
The MUA Luxe Velvet Lipstick’s unique design makes application very accurate so removing the need for a lip liner. I tend to wear lip liners whenever I wear lip stick or gloss for definition and to prevent bleeding unless it’s a shade that is very natural looking on me and so still wore a lip liner each time I wore this.
One thing I noticed though was that it did not last as long as my MAC matte lipsticks do and so I had to touch up more frequently than usual but given the difference in price point, is to be expected. I still think MAC make the best matte lipsticks.
