Men’s Health On My Mind

Ever since I was asked for my thoughts on a number of ingredients used by the food industry for a men’s health magazine, I’ve had men’s health on my mind! I didn’t blog about men’s health during National Men’s Health Week (13th to 19th of June) so it seems appropriate to share my thoughts (two really) now while they are fresh.

Fact #1: Men generally tend to have poorer health than women

This may surprise you but even more surprisingly, it’s not because of an increased risk of specific diseases but simply because men are less likely to monitor their health compared to women. Women usually make more visits to doctors over their lifetime, (probably due to pregnancies and other female-specific issues that require medical attention). There is evidence that these visits keep women in touch with health services, improving their general health outcomes.

Havering Women in Business

Today I was guest speaker at the Havering Women in Business networking event. I thoroughly enjoyed myself speaking to a full room of female entrepreneurs on strategies to improve their diet, lifestyle and wellbeing which would in turn reflect in their businesses. It’s always fulfilling to empower others and there were lots of ‘aha’ moments.

The networking was great too and I had the opportunity of putting faces to the names of some of my newest twitter followers. Here I am with Yvonne Bendall and Linda Watson from the London Borough of Havering who co-ordinate and organise Havering Women in Business.

Devised and written by fellow dietitian Dr Michelle Harvey, this informative and well-presented book provides an overview of breast cancer (including the defective BRCA1 gene which Angelina has and which predisposes carriers to breast cancer) and its prevention via lifestyle choices.

Conference on Health

CCLI had the pleasure of speaking at a health conference organised by three of my clients: the Commonweallth Countries League in partnership with the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK. Hosted by the Trinidad & Tobago High Commission, the aim of the conference was to create awareness on specific health concerns affecting people from Commonwealth countries.

My presentation was on eating well for health and wellbeing and I injected some humour based on the current horse meat scandal. Incidentally, during

Succeeding in Life

Success is simply being the best ‘you’ you can be, and in the process, you fulfil your life’s purpose. As you journey on in life it’s vital to evaluate along the way. Here are three points to consider:

  • If your past achievements still look big to you, then you’ve not done much today.

Celebrate your past accomplishments but don’t be so dazzled by them that you forget to focus and work towards future accomplishments.
