Product Review: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

A bit of a mouthful but this is a really good foundation. I was sent the shade #430 to test and review and it was a perfect match. For reference, I usually wear MAC Matchmaster in Shade 8.0.

I don’t use a lot of foundation; half to one pump of foundation with my MAC 187 stippling brush works for my entire face and this was the case for this Fenty Beauty foundation, starting from the centre of my face and working my way outwards. The consistency was runny but not too thin and it blended well into my skin though I had to work fast as it is quick-drying. It felt very light on my skin and the semi-matte finish provided good coverage which lasted all day though I didn’t use much at all.

The instructions were pretty straightforward and the packaging, a lightly frosted glass bottle with a plastic pump and lid was okay though the lid split slightly sometime later. There was a recommendation to prepare skin with the Fenty Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Primer for best results but this foundation worked well with all the different primers I use – MAC Prep & Prime Natural Radiance in Yellow, MAC Prep & Prime Essential Oils Stick and Benefit Pore Perfection.

Final thoughts:

I’m a strong advocate of a good base and this one definitely hit the mark. I would certainly continue to use this and would recommend it, especially as it lived up to its long-wear claims. The shade match was a big plus for me and with 50 shades to choose from, there should be a match for everyone. I really liked the light formula and the fact that it was compatible with primers I already own. The only thing I didn’t like was the lid which I think could be made less flimsy but overall the product worked well.
